The majority of countries in the world run on the principles of democracy , which functions on the dictum of the people, for the people, and by the people. The very foundation of democracy lies in the ability of the people to voice their opinion and choose their own leaders among themselves, through the process of voting.

Voting, although an optional right in most countries, is the sole medium through which the people of a nation can definitively voice their opinion about their leaders, but why this hullabaloo about being able to choose your own government? Read on to find out why it is important that we vote and elect our own government.

First of all, the matter of being able to choose our own government is no mean matter in itself. The government of a country is responsible for running the country efficiently. There is a lot of power vested in the government, and unless the popular vote is in effect, there is no saying how easily a government can turn into a dictatorship, or descend into total anarchy.

The process of voting allows you to decide which candidate is the best suited to run the government, and through this process of choosing, you are able to ensure that you have a good government that will take care of you and lead your nation to the betterment. In a democracy, you will have a number of candidates to choose from.

It is possible that you will not like the policies of all of them, and that in fact some of them might genuinely be bad for the country. In local elections, which actually have more impact on your day to day life, the results are more likely to be close. Contrary to many people's thinking, your vote DOES count. In a democracy we have to remember that people have died and fought for the right for all citizens in that democracy to vote.

Therefore, even if you only vote by spoiling your ballot paper, it is vitally important to participate in the mechanics of democracy to recognise the tremendous sacrifice and effort of some of our descendants for whom this right was forbidden.

Many people feel that they are just a drop of water in a large ocean, and there is no point in voting. However there is power in numbers. Voting is also an important part of the democratic process. People feel more involved in their country if they vote.

All of those votes add up, and elections can be won or lost on just a few votes. Why I think it is important to vote is because only if you have played your part in the democratic process do you have any right to comment on the actions that the politicians in power are taking. If you do not vote, you lose the power to say anything about the way your city's mayor is doing nothing about cleaning up the mess in your neighborhood or that the President is increasing taxes and using it to fund a war in Iraq that you believe serves no purpose.

But it is sure worth the effort and justifies missing a few hours of doing your favorite recreational activity. Why is it important to VOTE? Therefore, every American should vote because it is his or her duty. Voting is also important because it gives people the opportunity to express their opinions Walsh, Citizens of a democratic country have a say in everything, from laws to be enacted to the people who will assume government posts. The act of voting is actually deciding to make a decision.

Consequently, if suffrage is the expression of opinion, it follows that suffrage is also a means of change. Voting is the best way enact change. It is an avenue for different people to champion their individual concerns. Whether one is concerned with environmental problems, human rights, quality of education or foreign policies, he or she should vote to address these issues Clinton, It is important for every American to vote. First, it is the responsibility of every American citizen to vote, since it is his duty to do so.

Besides, failure to do so undermines the very nature of democracy. Second, voting is important because it is an outlet for people to express their opinions. Lastly, voting is an instrument for the change people want to see. This is only three of the many reasons why the American people should vote.
